Boarding School Guardianships - going out rules

our going out rules for when students are in a Bright World host family

Students who are 13 years or younger

If you are 13 or below you are not allowed out in the daytime or evening ever on your own and must be accompanied by an adult at all times. If your host family takes you and a friend or another student to a shopping centre then it is acceptable for you to have a small amount of time on your own but with an agreed meeting point and time and only if you are in mobile phone contact.

Students who are 14 or 15 years old

If you are 14 or 15, you are allowed out in the day time to the host family’s local town or village, i.e. to a local shopping centre.
We think students should preferably not go out alone but with a friend where possible. You must have a mobile telephone with you, tell your family where you are going and when you will be back.
You are under no circumstances allowed to go to London or any other place other than your local town on your own or with a friend. You must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Students who are 16 years plus

If you are 16 plus, you are allowed out in the daytime locally. You must have a mobile phone with you and be back before dark at an appointed time.
If you are 16 years old, you are allowed to go further afield i.e. to London ideally with a friend, but you must be back before dark and must remain in telephone contact with your host family.

Students who are 17 plus

If you are 17 plus, you are allowed to go to London or other places all day and into the evening but must be back by 11pm at night. You must travel with a friend if you are out after dark and not on your own.

NO BRIGHT WORLD STUDENT IS ALLOWED TO STAY OUT OVERNIGHT WITHOUT THEIRPARENTS’ PERMISSION AND WITH SUFFICIENT NOTICE. STAYING OUT OVERNIGHTCANNOT BE DECIDED ON THE DAY OF TRAVEL.

Please be aware that we have the following age-based going-out rules in place for students when they are under the care of our host families. If you prefer stricter rules to be in place, please let us know now:
