family friend verification service

Where overseas parents have a friend of the family who they want to nominate to provide regular and/or emergency accommodation for their child, Bright World can help to ensure that UKVI Rules are met for visa and safeguarding purposes with our Family Friend Verification Service.

Provided Bright World is the umbrella Nominated Guardian, then living with a family friend would be acceptable but only after certain checks are made and verified by us. Checks take time and will only be possible with sufficient time allowed. We will let you know if this Service is feasible for you on application.

What are the rules?

  • The intended carer must be aged 18 plus, a British Citizen or have settled status, although many schools will insist that the Intended Carer is aged 25 years or over.
  • Every member of the household must not have committed a ‘relevant criminal offence,’ as referenced in the Child Student Immigration rules. Bright World will conduct Enhanced DBS checks on all household members aged 16 plus.
  • The living arrangements must be suitable and pass safety checks.
  • The accommodation must be a private residence.

Bright World's Verification Service

Our verification service is dependent on:

  • A completed permission form from the overseas Parent or Legal Guardian containing full details of the proposed family friend.
  • Confirmation that the family friend is happy to fully engage with us and undertake our checks.
  • Advance warning - in order to fulfil visa requirements, the DBS checks and inspection have to be completed prior to issuing the Letter of Undertaking ready for visa application. We will evaluate the feasibility of full verification being done in time on application.

What does it involve?

  • Completion of an online form.
  • A DBS check conducted online on every member of the household of 16 plus - this could be the Digital Service or an in person ID check.
  • Sight of a current DBS disclosure certificate within 3 years for each member of the household.
  • A face to face interview and house inspection from a Bright World Representative
  • In person ID check for DBS purposes.
  • Certificated Bright World Safeguarding Training Programme offered free of charge

Emergency Back-Up

The family friend will be given full access to the Bright World Emergency 24/7 phone and email service. We will step in should their plans change and alternative safe accommodation or travel arrangements be needed.

If Checks Fail

If a family friend does not pass our verification check then we will make alternative arrangements.

Family Friend Verification Costs

Full Quotation will be provided prior to each check

  • Verification Service - £40

  • Mileage - 55p/mile

  • DBS Checks - £20 per person
