Last week, Lana, James and Jenny attended a two day DSL training programme, led by Adam Lubbock, a safeguarding practitioner and founder of Kings River Education. Managing Director and Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Lana Foster, has been spearheading student safeguarding at Bright World with her husband James, Co-owner and Commercial Director, for many years. Her passion has influenced every aspect of our guardianship programme.
Lana and Jenny, Director of Safeguarding and Operations, work tirelessly, to keep our policies in line with the latest government and industry updates and to promote the safety of students under our care.
Last week, Lana, James and Jenny attended Designated Safeguarding Lead training led by Adam Lubbock, founder of Kings River Education. This training covered important updates to the main pieces of government safeguarding legislation in the UK - Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children.
Training sessions also covered new safeguarding terminology and areas of risk for young people, particularly international students, who can often be more vulnerable due to the difference in culture.
Kings River Education provides bespoke training for AEGIS Guardianship Organisations as well schools and other organisations who safeguard children and young adults. This includes not only the DSL Training but courses for guardianship staff and more recently a unique online course for host families.
In order to make sure that we are providing the best care for our students, it is important that we stay up to date on the latest updates, both within the school and guardianship sector and also UK government legislation. The safeguarding landscape is constantly changing and we need to be able to respond effectively to new potential issues and areas of concern.
All Bright World head office staff and Local Coordinators, known to our guardianship parents and students as Bright World Buddies, are fully safeguarding trained and receive an additional course of refresher training every year.
Bright world is fully accredited by AEGIS - the Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students - to Gold Standard.
As part of our accreditation, we must adhere to very strict safeguarding standards and are re-inspected every four years.
