Bright World guardianship programmes for Box Hill School students

Box Hill School and Bright World Guardianships

The majority of UK boarding schools require all overseas pupils to have a UK guardian. A guardian should be a responsible adult living in the UK who can be there in an emergency situation on behalf of parents. The importance of assigning a professional guardian for international students at UK boarding schools cannot be overestimated.

Box Hill School is committed to ensuring the safety of all their students and therefore insists on students using a guardianship agency that is inspected and accredited by AEGIS (Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students).

For those parents who do not have a UK contact, Box Hill School has entered into a strategic partnership with Bright World Guardianships as their preferred provider of guardianship services.

A choice of two service programmes is offered to suit all students' needs (Essential and Full) and to ensure that safeguarding standards are met whilst remaining cost-effective for their parents.

Services

Guardianship fees and package options

Students enrolling will benefit from a specially reduced guardianship fee that has been negotiated with Box Hill School on behalf of their overseas parents. Essential Guardianship: For students who will be returning home or staying in school for the half term holidays and who do not require assistance with travel, the Guardianship standard option will be ideal. The cost for Guardianship Standard is £1,980 per annum payable in advance. For shorter term guardianship, termly charges will be £660 per term. We do not allow termly fee payments and fees must be paid for the duration of the academic year in advance. Emergency host family and travel assistance is available if needed and subject to extra charges as listed in the Optional Extra costs below. These will be charged as extra. Full Guardianship: For those students who need a regular host family and assistance with UK travel, in addition to our Essential Guardianship service, the Full Guardianship option will be the ideal choice. An initial expenses fund deposit is collected at the beginning of the year to cover the costs of these extra services and a host family will be allocated in advance of the start of the school year. Parents will have access to our Host Family Selection Tool and will be able to help us to choose their host family. The 2023-24 cost for Full Guardianship is £1,980 per annum payable in advance PLUS £1,500 expenses fund. For shorter term guardianship, termly charges will be £660 per term plus £500 per term deposit. We do not allow termly fee payments and fees must be paid for the duration of the academic year in advance. From September 2024 Full Guardianship fees will increase to £2,385 per annum/£795 per term with the £1,500 expenses fund remaining the same.

Frequently Asked Questions

why do I need to appoint an Educational Guardian in the UK?

The UK Government Department for Education has recently revised the National Minimum Standards (NMS) for Boarding Schools, a set of standards that we are obliged to review and meet to ensure that the wellbeing of all children in UK boarding school is appropriately protected. There are now several points surrounding guardianship, many of which have a direct implication on ALL international students at Box Hill School whose parents are not resident in the UK. Whilst the NMS is a comprehensive document, Standard 22 outlines the standard pertaining to educational guardianship. In addition, the United Kingdom Visa & Immigration (UKVI) Authority, which issues schools with a licence as an educational sponsor, will regularly monitor all boarding schools and colleges to ensure appropriate procedures are in place.
